Greetings to you and welcome to the 3rd week in our series on Bible-Based Faith. As we continue to explore the subject of FAITH, the focus this week is on the “proof” of Faith, which is Obedience.
The story of Abram, who later became Abraham, never ceases to fascinate me.
He proved his faith in God by obeying every instruction that came to him from God; part of which was the instruction to leave Haran at the age of 75; to an unknown destination (Genesis 12:1). Again, in Genesis 17:11 & 24, he was told to circumcise himself at the age of 99 and he complied without questions. It became a lot more interesting in Genesis 22:2 when God instructed him to sacrifice the one promised son he had waited for several years for. As “tough” as every instruction was, Abraham remained obedient because he believed in the integrity of God. This is evident in the verses of scriptures below:
Heb.11:17-19 “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.…” KJV
In one of Dr. David Oyedepo’s definitions of FAITH, he said, “Faith is not just believing God; faith is obeying God to prove that we believe Him so as to commit Him to make good His promise.”
What a brilliant and insightful definition, and how very true!
Your confessions alone do not prove that you have faith but your obedience to God’s instructions validates the presence of faith in your heart.
It’s my prayer that you will always find delight in obeying His instructions as proof of Your faith in Him.
God BLESS You
